As day and night approach balance autumn unfolds across China at different times

Autumn Equinox · Autumn in Full

When day and night find balance

Around the Autumn Equinox, day and night are almost equal. Summer heat begins to ease, winter has yet to arrive, and autumn moves gradually from north to south.

Harvest and gathering

Rice fields turn from green to gold and orchards fill with ripe fruit. In villages and markets, the harvest changes what people cook, sell and celebrate. The Mid Autumn Festival also falls within this broader season, gathering families under the full moon.

Follow autumn across China

Autumn arrives first in northern and high-altitude regions. South of the Yangtze, osmanthus, new rice, water towns and tree-lined streets create a gentler season. In the southwest, terraced fields turn gold. Further south, the weather remains warm enough for time outdoors.

Experience China at the right time

Our Autumn Equinox window follows the harvest and the deepening colour southward. Choose the region where the season is most alive when you travel.
